Myths & Missteps When Choosing Schools

  • 330 Camp Rd. Charlotte, NC USA (map)

Parents are notoriously bad at choosing schools that teach effectively, and those choices typically increase inequity.

Join us as we pull back the curtain on common myths, review Charlotte-specific school data, and consider more just and effective ways to identify great schools.

We’ll look at CMS data (K-12, charter, magnet & traditional) and consider:

  • Which schools are “best”?

  • How do we define “best”?

  • Why school ranking sites will lead you astray

  • How segregation & racism impact ideas of school quality

  • Considerations if looking at private schools
